Jon Spolum was one of Washburn's outstanding athletes in the mid 1950s excelling in football and baseball. He stood out in a group of very talented athletes.

In football where he won two letters, Jon was Washburn's main running back as a junior and senior. As a senior on Washburn's City Conference Championship team, Jon was selected to the All City Conference team.

In basketball, Jon earned two letters and was a contributor on the team that won the 1955 Minnesota State Basketball Championship.

In baseball, Jon earned three letters. He was a starting pitcher, playing centerfield when he wasn't pitching and, as a senior in 1955 was instrumental in leading Washburn to the school's first Minnesota State Baseball Championship.

Jon graduated from Washburn in June 1955. He attended the University of Colorado on an athletic scholarship and played football until an injury shortened his college career.

After college, Jon pitched in the Washington Senators organization and then went unto a successful business career rising to regional sales manager and owning several clothing stores in Colorado.
